To be admitted into the Graduate School, all students must do the following:
- Complete a Graduate School Application by the application deadline listed on "Deadlines" (Note: The application link navigates you off this page to the University of Wisconsin System application website.)

Pay a $56 non-refundable application fee ($106 fee if international student) by credit card with online application (Only students seeking a Master’s or Education Specialist degree are required to pay this fee.)
- Submit official:
- a. Baccalaureate transcripts showing the degree awarded. Note: If that transcript shows fewer than 55 semester credits, submit all transcripts; (Special instructions for International students -- see international Students tab)
b. Graduate transcripts for any graduate work attempted or completed - NOTE: if you graduated or will be graduating from Stout there is no need to submit your UW-Stout transcripts

For certain degree programs there are additional applications and materials required by the application deadline. Check your graduate program's website for details for specific admission requirements.

Students seeking a post-baccalaureate non-degree add-on certification should visit the School of Education website for an application and information.

Graduate students who wish to enroll in undergraduate coursework must contact the Graduate School (715-232-2211) prior to registering for that coursework.

Proficiency in computer applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Internet searching, and the like is a skill set required for success in graduate school
Other Application Forms
Current UW-Stout students seeking Dual Enrollment must complete the Bachelor's/Master's [PDF] form or the Master's/Education Specialist [PDF] form.
Graduate students who took a semester or longer break from graduate school must fill out the Students Record Update Form [PDF].

International Students must submit the following:
Graduate School Application for International Students
Application fee of $106
- Please submit payment at the end of the online application
English Proficiency (only ONE of the following must be completed)
- Official TOEFL score (school code 1740)
- Minimum iBT score of 70
- Minimum paper based of 523
- Applicants with TOEFL scores under 79 (iBT) or 550 (paper-based) will be required to take at least one advanced level language course through UW-Stout's ESL program
- Official IELTS score
- Minimum score of 6.5
- Attend the English as a Second Language Institute
- Attend an English language affiliated program (see sidebar at right for ESL affiliates)
- Complete a Bachelor's or Master's Degree from an accredited institution in the USA within the last five years
Declaration of Finances [PDF]
- Formal written statement or official bank statement certifying that either the sponsor or the prospective student has sufficient funds (in US Dollar amounts, at least $21,500) on deposit to insure full payment of expenses for the student's first year at the University of Wisconsin-Stout
Official/Attested Academic Records
- Academic records from all secondary and higher education institutions attended.
- Must provide official/attested academic records translated into English as well as original document.
For international applicants interested in Graduate School admission, it is in your best interest to use a credential evaluator. The Graduate School suggests verification of degree equivalency and U.S. Grade Point Average (GPA). A suggested list of evaluators can be found below:- Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE)
