What is a Legacy Intern?
A LEGACY is something you leave behind… so that others may remember you… OR so that we become better people because you were here.
LEGACY INTERNS are UW-Stout students... who have been there, done this and that… and are looking for something meaningful to invest in during the last months at UW-Stout.
LEGACY INTERNS plan, implement and evaluate a project that addresses an existing need on campus or in the community.
Projects fall into three areas:
• Service to Community
• Social Justice/Change
• Leader Development
LEGACY INTERNS
• Two orientation sessions (Friday, January 25, 2008 at noon in the Ally Center- Introduction to Legacy. The second session wll be determined based on participant schedules - and will be a 2-3 hour workshop.
• Meet weekly- but only as needed.
• Work on projects as individuals or in groups. Spend approximately
3 hours a week on their projects.
• Public presentations of projects (late November and early December).
• Reception will be held in the week prior to Commencement.
Think about all the classes, friends, faculty, jobs, organization memberships, events attended… You’ve already invested a lot in your Stout experience – more than you would have thought possible when you were a new student… What can you leave to help us remember you?
What does a Legacy Intern do?
• Dialogue about civic responsibility;
• Discuss professional ethics;
• Establish personal mission/vision;
• Meet the changing needs of society.
Intern project possibilities include:
Develop an Alternative Break or other local service activity;
Address local/regional environmental sustainability;
Establish an issues-oriented film and/or forum series;
Participate in campus or local governance;
Create a multimedia campaign to expose/address poverty in Dunn County;
Conduct a website audit (diversity/leadership/service)
(Other ideas? It’s your dream…It’s your legacy…
how can we help you fulfill it?)
Initiating change takes time and energy, but the rewards last a lifetime!
