Officer & Chairperson Duties

You may want to ask yourself each of the following questions.

  1. Do I know the purpose of the organization?
  2. Do I know where to find the constitution?
  3. Have I read the organization’s constitution?
  4. Have I thought of my responsibilities as an officer of a student organization?
  5. Have I discussed my role as an officer with my organization advisor(s)?
  6. Have I discussed my role as an officer with other organizations’ officers or with the officers of my organization?
  7. Have I discussed individually and collectively with the officers their objectives and goals for the organization?
  8. Do I generate the officers and member’s interest in the organization?
  9. Do the majority of the members in the organization participate on committees, at meetings, or on projects?
  10. Is the group participation distributed broadly or limited to only a few volunteers?
  11. Do I have informal contact with the students of the organization or the advisor?
  12. Do I know personally the members of the organization and do they know me?
  13. Do I involve many non-students, alumni, or faculty in my organization, and to what capacity?
  14. Do I try to involve my advisor in the organization’s activities as much as possible?
  15. Do I meet with my organization advisor very often or as little as possible?
  16. Are my organization’s projects and activities evaluated yearly for their value to the organization and others?
  17. Are there past reports available for my review?
  18. Does my organization advisor offer assistance?
  19. Are meetings and activities announced effectively so that everyone can plan to be present?
  20. Do I meet with my faculty advisor on a regular basis?
  21. Does my organization involve itself with other organizations in shared projects?
  22. Am I aware of the facilities and assistance available to the student organizations on my campus?
  23. Does my organization make use of the facilities and assistance available to it?
  24. Am I familiar with the Stout Student Association’s constitution and the sections pertaining to student organizations?
  25. Am I familiar with the UW-Stout Student Organization Code of Conduct?
