Ten-year enrollment growth second highest in UW System

UW-Stout’s enrollment has grown by 20 percent during the past decade, the second highest rate in the UW System, according to new statewide statistics.

In 2004-05, enrollment was 7,750; preliminary enrollment for 2013-14 is 9,286. That 20 percent increase is second only to UW-Platteville's growth rate, UW System statistics show.

“Our 66,000 alumni can attest to UW-Stout’s reputation for innovative education that produces graduates who are career-ready,” says Juliet Fox, UW-Stout’s Alumni Association director. “It provides the direct skills they need to succeed in the ever-changing global business world.”

UW-Stout Chancellor Charles W. Sorensen attributed the growth to numerous factors.

"We have added programs in engineering, the sciences, the arts, business and education,” Sorensen says. “The word also has gotten out that UW-Stout places 97 percent of its graduates in jobs within six months of leaving campus.”

"Finally, our campus has been transformed in recent years through a new science building, a remodeled student center and other improvements."

Since 1988 the number of undergraduate majors has increased from 20 to 44, and the number of graduate majors has increased from 18 to 23, along with three advanced degree programs.

Since 1988 UW-Stout has completed five new buildings, two major additions and seven major renovations.
