Writing Multimedia Project Four Assignment

Dan Riordan, Instructor
Fall 2006

Due Dates and Goal. Project Four is a Flash or PowerPoint document.. The project is due date tba. You will make an oral report on this project, date tba.

The goal of the project is to use a multimedia document to present information that a specific audience needs or can use. The document must be the result of your original research. Unless you can persuade me otherwise, this project must either be a training game about a credible, professional issue, or else an interactive narrative, somewhat like the National Geographic story of the Underground Railroad.

What the Movie Must Contain. The document must contain four kinds of media; have an interesting, appropriate hierarchy and navigation system; and have interesting, appropriate interactivity. This assignment will be graded in terms of the items just mentioned, and also in terms of "conceptual risk"--I urge you to push the envelope (but manage your time). The project must also have a references page.  You must create all the audio and/or video that you use in the project.

Due Date. The proposal is due on date tba. It must include topic, audience, goal for audience, duties of each member of the group. The production document is due on date tba.  It must include a schedule for completion of alpha version, testing responsibilities, schedule for completion of beta version with testing responsibilities, a storyboard, a template, and a navigation chart.

What You Have to Hand In.

1.      One cd that contains the movie able to run on both platforms.

2.      A web version of the movie posted to your site

3.      A self-evaluation.

What to Include in the Self-Evaluation Paper

1. The paper must be typed and double-spaced. It must have a title and introduction. All pages must be numbered and divisions of the paper indicated by bold-faced heads.

2. Deal with these topics

·         How closely did you follow your initial storyboard?

·         How accurate were you on the time you allotted?

·         How well did you predict the characters that you would use?

·         Were you able to control the software well enough so that you could create the communication effects that you wanted?

·         Explain your  hierarchy. Do the readers get progressively more information? Does your navigation allow a lot or not much choice?

·         Did you create interactivity so that the readers have a sense of discovery as they click into your document?
