Teaching Interests
My teaching interests are motivated by questions related to the nature of truth and by Socrates' example of living the examined life. In many of my courses, I emphasize metaphysical and epistemological issues. For example, in Introduction to Philosophy I spend about a quarter of the semester examining the idea that truth is relative. My belief in the importance of living the examined life leads me to stress the importance of developing and living a coherent world view. It also leads to a strong commitment to teaching introductory level courses, since for many students this is their only exposure to philosophy. In addition, I am interested in innovative techniques for enhancing student learning and for increasing opportunities for learning. I have integrated the use of technology into all of my courses. I teach both critical thinking and logic on-line, and have incorporated service learning activities into a course in applied ethics. The courses that I have taught include:

American Indian Philosophies, Applied Ethics, Applied Ethics and Service Learning, Asian Philosophy, Business Ethics, Critical Thinking, Elementary Logic, Epistemology, Introduction to Philosophy, Medical Ethics, Minority Voices (an interdisciplinary course), and Philosophy of Religion.

Professional Interests
