Roles/Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Academic Advising (65%) •Provide academic, cultural, and social advisement to assigned incoming first-year and undeclared transfer students in several academic majors. Consult with academic program directors regarding current program requirements. Attend academic program department meetings as requested and work collaboratively with faculty to ensure student success. •Provide first-year students with basic procedural and policy information relating to academics and the university setting (drop/add policy, academic probation/dismissal, satisfactory progress, change of major, etc.). Ensure students have a clear understanding of degree requirements, General Education, Racial and & Ethnic Studies, Global Perspective Courses, minors, concentrations and study abroad requirements. Assist with course selection and registration process. Explain Placement Test results if needed. •Introduce students to and assist students with information and instructional technology: Access Stout, Learn @ Stout, useful websites, TIS (Transfer Information System), etc. •Provide information and referrals regarding campus services and resources. Serve as liaison between student, instructors and other support staff. •Interpret and review early alert results with students. Problem-solve and support students encountering academic, social and adjustment issues. Explain expectations and responsibilities supporting success in higher education such as pace of instruction, feedback, and increased self-directed learning. •Make regular contact with students through one-to-one appointments, email, and group presentations. Monitor academic progress of assigned students, especially those identified as retention risk according to high school predictors, socioeconomic status, early alert feedback, etc. •Utilize Early Alert System to intervene when students are experiencing academic difficulty. •Maintain accurate case notes and records on AdvisorTrac and MAPWorks. •Provide career exploration and career counseling services to students by assisting with career exploration software and resources, which may include teaching the Career Exploration Seminar. New Student Orientation and Registration (20%) •Participate and provide leadership in new student orientation and registration days including developing and facilitating the agenda, communicating with faculty and staff, and collaboratively recruiting, hiring and training the student summer orientation leaders. •Prepare course schedules and / or lists of appropriate courses for assigned students. Service (5%) •Work as a team member to provide consistent advising and services to students. • Actively participate in staff meetings and in-office committee work. •Serve on various interdepartmental and university committees. Other Duties (10%) •Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
