Principles of Safety (RC-271)
Course Description

This course will introduce the basic concepts and principles of safety and loss prevention programming. Furthermore, the application and utilization of these concepts and principles to safety programs within the contemporary society is a primary objective of the course.

Course Objectives

  1. Identify the major historical events that influenced accident prevention activities in the pre/post industrial revolution.
  2. Compare past and contemporary philosophies of safety.
  3. Identify the moral and economic consequences associated with the major classifications and causes of accidents.
  4. Apply psychological principles to individual acts of unsafe behavior.
  5. Explain the causal relationship between accidents and liability.
  6. Identify potential and existing hazards that are associated with teaching of industrial education in public schools.
  7. Identify basic fire prevention and protection programs in the public schools.
  8. Identify essential elements of an occupational safety and health program.
  9. Describe basic components of an effective school-community traffic and industrial safety education program.
  10. Recognize unsafe acts and unsafe conditions associated with selected school subjects and facilities.
