A $400 deterrent fee is charged for a lost or stolen University laptop. After the required police report is submitted to ASK5000 Help Desk, students will receive a replacement laptop.

Theft Prevention
There are many locations on campus where you will be using your laptop computer- the library, Student Union, residence hall rooms, classrooms, labs, and outside. Theft is the most common crime on campus. Most items are stolen from vehicles and unlocked or unattended rooms. Theft is the most difficult crime for UW-Stout Police to prevent, but the easiest crime for you to prevent. A thief needs only seconds to steal what it takes you hours to earn. Over ninety percent of all thefts from campus buildings last year involved unlocked rooms. A room that is unlocked for even a few minutes is all the invitation a thief needs.
Lock your doors whenever you are out of your room. If this has not been your habit in the past, it is one you should adopt. Several thefts have taken place in unlocked rooms while the occupant was inside sleeping. Remember, for your own personal safety as well as security of your property, lock your room door when your go to sleep at night.
