Medical Device Innovations

The Discovery Center, drawing on UW-Stout's polytechnic programs and its proximity to leading clinical organizations and medical device manufacturers, launched a broad Medical Device Innovations initiative in the fall of 2010.

Medical Device Development and Biomedical Research

  • Self-sustaining medical device research and development center for UW System based at UW-Stout
  • Dedicated research PhD, post-doctoral, and project management staff
  • Collaboration with WiSys Technology Foundation innovation and technology transfer resources
  • Partnership and joint development programs with consortium of major Wisconsin medical centers
  • Collaborative on-site and/or on-campus research and development with medical device companies
  • Privately and publicly funded development projects

Expanding on the existing medical device development on campus and in regional companies the Discovery Center play a key role in providing strategic focus and expertise to advance UW-Stout's research capacity, provide medical solutions and enhance Wisconsin's economy.

Student Involvement

The Medical Device Initiative engages the involvement of UW System's WiSys Technology Foundation and Wisconsin Medical Entrepreneurship Foundation, and encourages student involvement. This year's collaborative efforts resulted in:

  • Two UW-Stout student projects being featured at UW System research events
  • Seven technology-based innovations being highlighted at a June 2011 Medical Device Symposium at UW-Stout.
