University of Wisconsin - Stout

  • Students with disabilities, who have been denied admission to the University and desire alternate admission must send a letter requesting alternate admission, provide current documentation and three letters of recommendation from teachers to the Admissions Office.  The Admissions Exception Committee Members will consider your alternative admission request.  For further information contact Disability Services at 715-232-2995.
  • Students with disabilities who require accommodations must seek assistance at the Disability Services Office in a timely manner.  It is recommended that requests be made a minimum of 8 weeks prior to the start of classes. Requests that are submitted late may result in a delay of the accommodation.
  • Upon notification of acceptance from Admissions Office:
    1. Contact the Disability Services Office at 715-232-2995 to set up an appointment.
    2. Mail, fax or bring in most current documentation of your disability.
    3. Assessment of need will be completed at the appointment. Interaction between the disability and the academic environment will be discussed to identify reasonable accommodations.
    4. Upon verification of disability, an Educational Support Plan for reasonable accommodations and other appropriate services will be established and reviewed with the student.
  • Disability Services will maintain a file containing the official documentation of the disability.
  • Disability Services will ensure that disability-related documents are kept confidential and shared with University personnel on a limited and need-to-know basis only.
  • Consultation with faculty, staff, and outside professionals regarding essential elements and reasonable accommodations will occur in situations that are new, complex, or sensitive.
  • Disability Services will outline the process for the provision of reasonable accommodations. Standard procedures are established by Disability Services for auxiliary aids and services (e.g., notetakers, exam modifications, alternative textbooks, academic assistance).
  • Disability Services will provide individual letters to faculty for students who use notetakers and/or exam modifications.  The student with a disability is responsible to meet with the faculty, to distribute the letters and to discuss when and how the accommodation will be provided.
  • Instructors will be expected to assist with the provision of accommodations when reasonable and necessary.  Instructors are not expected to compromise essential elements of the course or evaluation standards.
  • Students with disabilities will be responsible for contacting Disability Services if reasonable accommodations are not implemented in an effective or timely manner.  Disability Services will work with University personnel and students with disabilities to resolve disagreements regarding recommended accommodations.
  • Students with disabilities who believe they have been discriminated against on the basis of their disability may file a grievance with the Dean of Students or the ADA Coordinator.
