Baseline Dining Plan
On Campus Students
The Residence Dining Baseline Plan is designed for students living in the residence halls to ensure daily service of cafeteria meals at the two cafeteria facilities: Commons and Tainter. This plan can also be used to make dining purchases outside cafeteria meals at three facilities: Commons, Tainter and Memorial Student Center as well as our Expressway Carts across campus. All residence hall students are required to participate in a Baseline Dining Plan but are free to choose from four buy-in levels with costs that reflect the level of services, breadth of menu offerings and hours of operation at their primary dining location. This plan is issued on a per semester basis with funds carrying forward continually.
The purchase of a Baseline Dining Plan opens a Baseline Account. The Baseline Account allows access (via your Stout OneCard) to two types of funds:
2007-2008 Info costs 2008-2009 Info costs Breakfast $1.30 $1.30Lunch $2.00 $2.15Dinner $2.30 $2.40

"Dining Funds." Are the initial dollars purchased as part of the Baseline Plan. These funds may be used only in dining operations and can be added to at anytime.
Plus Funds. Are all deposits over and above the initial "dining fund" purchase that is part of each plan level. Initially each hall resident decides on a specific dollar amount to deposit here, and can add to it at anytime. Plus Funds expand purchasing options and are not limited to dining use only. They may be used at the Bookstore, Recreation Center, Service Center, University Library, copy and vending areas, weight room, computer laboratories, Student Health Center, Niche and other locations.
Account Funds These carry forward continually. Accounts with no activity over a 12-month period will be closed out.
Baseline Plan Cost
The cost is broken into two parts:
Board Fee (per semester) to pay overhead involved in the service of cafeteria meals at the Price Commons and Tainter facilities. As a result, the cost of cafeteria meals for plan participants is only the average food cost for the meal.
Purchasing Dollars These are the dining funds deposited in your Baseline Account to make purchases on campus. The amount varies with plan level but may be added to at any time.

What Baseline Plan is best for you?
It is suggested that you select the plan which comes closest to your needs but does not exceed them. Be conservative as you can deposit additional funds throughout the semester. When choosing a plan, consider how often you will be away from campus, which meals you will consistently eat and how often you may be eating outside the cafeteria at ala carte operations.
On average, per semester, a student spends $132.00 for cafeteria meals at the reduced price and $143.00 for dining at ala carte locations, or a total of $275.00, placing usage between Level 2 & 3. If you consider yourself average, you may want to choose one of these levels. Where you dine is the most important factor besides frequency of dining when you select a plan. Dining at cafeteria meals the majority of the time, in the primary dining locations, Commons and Tainter, is the most economical use of the plan.
This table can assist you in estimating the appropriate level of dining funds. To use, enter the number of times a week you may eat each cafeteria meal and extend for the 15 weeks in a semester; then add on estimated ala carte purchases.
