Bylaws of the RESGP Curriculum Advisory Committee

A. Name

Racial, Ethnic Studies and Global Perspectives Curriculum (RESGP) Advisory Committee.

B. Purpose

The purpose of the committee shall be
  1. To review UW System standards, to develop and recommend UW-Stout policy and standards regarding the Racial and Ethnic studies (RES) requirement to the Curriculum and Instruction Committee (CIC), and to recommend acceptance or rejection of courses to be included in the list of RES courses.

  2. To develop and recommend UW-Stout policy and standards regarding the Global Perspectives (GLP) requirement to the Curriculum and Instruction Committee (CIC), and to recommend acceptance or rejection of courses to be included in the list of GLP courses.

  3. The committee is advisory to the CIC.

C. Membership

  1. The Racial, Ethnic Studies and Global Perspectives committee shall consist of nine (9) voting members as follows:
  • Six (6) representative from each of the four colleges: one each for a total of four (4) from the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (CAHSS), College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences (CEHHS), College of Management (COM), and College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (CSTEM); plus two (2) faculty or instructional academic staff.

  • One (1) Senator of the Stout Student Association

  • One (1) Advisement Center Staff

  • One (1) representative appointed by the Provost's Office (ex-officio) 

  1. When the representative cannot attend, absentee ballots may be requested prior to the meeting being called to order.

  2. Each voting member (except for the student member, whose length of term is to be determined by the SSA) is to be elected to a three year term, with one-third of the committee being selected each year.

D. Officers

  1. Each year at its organizational meeting the committee shall elect a chair from the members on the committee.

  2. The terms of office shall be one year in length with the possibility of re-election.

  3. The general duties of the chair are outlined in Robert's Rules of Order.

E. Responsibilities of the Committee

  1. Development of racial, ethnic and global studies standards
  • The committee leads the university in developing, reviewing, and maintaining a common racial, ethnic and global studies standards for undergraduate students in the university.

  • The committee submits for review by the CIC any proposals for changes in the racial, ethnic and global studies standards requirement, including any changes in category definitions and credit distribution. The CIC will forward recommendations for approval to the Faculty Senate along with proposals for revision of racial, ethnic and global studies standards.

  • The committee makes recommendations to CIC concerning RESGP courses submitted for approval.

  • The committee monitors and advises the CIC on UW System-level developments related to racial, ethnic and global studies standards.

  1. The committee coordinates ongoing assessment and review of racial, ethnic and global studies.

  2. Committee's role in education and advisement

  • The committee will develop goals for the year.

  • The committee advocates for racial, ethnic and global studies as a vital component of education provided at UW-Stout.

  • The committee provides academic advisement and consultation to faculty, staff and students regarding racial, ethnic and global studies.

F. Meetings

  1. Regular meetings of the Racial, Ethnic Studies and Global Perspectives Committee shall be held monthly during the academic year and as needed during the summer sessions.

  2. Special meetings may be called by the chair.

  3. The quorum shall consist of a majority of the voting members.

  4. The meetings shall be open.
