CTEM Strategic Planning

Goals and Strategies

CTEM Goal #1: Teaching

To develop and maintain courses at the forefront of the discipline in support of programs and to teach these courses with the highest quality instruction.

Strategy 1: Improve the process to obtain and increase external funding.

  • Increase professional training to stay current with discipline and technology.
  • Provide mentoring for faculty/staff members.
  • Provide opportunities for continuous updating of work experience.
  • Pursue other faculty/staff recruitment/retention and diversity improvements.

Strategy 2: Develop a more formal marketing plan.

  • Promote the "hands-on, minds-on" brand.
  • Target prospective students in addition to potential employers.
  • Market community outreach performed by faculty and staff.
  • Market programs to attract a diverse student population.
  • Market laboratories.
  • Market faculty and staff.

Strategy 3: Enhance/develop distance education as an extension of the "hands-on, minds-on" approach.

Strategy 4: Increase SCH production through the delivery of life-long learning opportunities (seminars, certificate offerings, remote delivery, MS and PhD offerings).

Strategy 5: Communicate the resource needs of current program offerings within the college and external to the college.

Strategy 6: Refine and continue implementation of strategic planning process in CTEM and align CTEM's strategic plan with the university's strategic plan (two-way alignment).

Strategy 7: Streamline the process for "differential tuition/service tuition" offerings.

Strategy 8: Provide leadership in meeting the growing need in the Chippewa Valley for engineering and technology undergraduate and graduate opportunities.

Strategy 9: Create a process for systematic review and revision of course curriculum and documentation.

CTEM Goal #2: Human Resources

To nurture an environment that supports excellence in teaching and encourages professional development, open communications, honesty, diversity and teamwork.

Strategy 1: Improve planning, resourcing, and implementation of faculty/staff development.

  • Increase professional training to stay current with discipline and technology.
  • Provide mentoring for faculty/staff members.
  • Provide opportunities for continuous updating of work experience.
  • Pursue other faculty/staff recruitment/retention and diversity improvements.

Strategy 2: Improve the planning and implementation of an employee measurement system that rewards excellence and balances workload.

CTEM Goal #3: Research and Service

To support the development and delivery of our programs and courses by conducting applied research, providing professional service, and interacting with stakeholders and outside publics.

Strategy 1: Work to better serve CTEM research and service.

  • Work to define the role of Stout Solutions to better serve CTEM research and service activities.
  • Identify critical services needed from Stout Solutions.
  • Help refine financial model for reimbursement of faculty/staff (improve faculty/staff pay models through Continuing Ed.).
  • Increase release time for applied research.

Strategy 2: Increase and improve partnering and outreach/research opportunities.

  • Professional organizations.

Strategy 3: Improve informal interactions between faculty and staff.

Strategy 4: Improve the infrastructure and support systems for faculty and staff.
