UW-Stout has a rich history of teaching about, using, and managing technology. The programs offered by the College of Technology, Engineering and Management and the faculty who interact directly with the students are attuned not only to the needs of a technologist but to the needs of business and industry as well.
Faculty and administration continually strive to meet the requirements of maintaining UW-Stout in its many dimensions, and will continue to seek out new partnerships. These linkages between Stout and business and industry provide:
- New services and changes in curriculum
- Improvements and expansion of the knowledge base that supports our programs
- Opportunities for faculty and staff to remain current in their fields
- Case studies that allow students to solve real business and industry problems
- Development of new and stronger partnerships in industries and business related to CTEM's special mission programs
Stout's incubator assists Wisconsin economic development through the generation of new manufacturing-related companies. It also provides opportunities for students to benefit from Stout's "hands-on, minds-on" philosophy of learning. The incubator has graduated 18 companies during the past 17 years of service. Twelve remain viable. A recent company to move on is Schmit Prototypes which entered the incubator with two employees, exited with 20 employees, and now employs more than 75 people in a major industrial facility in Menomonie.
UW-Stout's Manufacturing Outreach Center has been recognized locally, regionally, statewide, and nationally for providing innovative practices and solutions for business and industry. Faculty are frequently called upon to assist in the re-tooling and development of business and industrial practices.
