Extended Bio of Mary Jackelen

Mary Jackelen, Ed. S., LPC - Counselor 

Mary is a licensed professional counselor (WI) who has worked as a counselor in the university setting since 1993. She has volunteered at turning point, a domestic abuse shelter.   She earned degrees in the following: An Ed. S. in Counseling & Psychological Services from UW-Stout, a M.S.E. (Master of Science in Education) in Community Counseling from UW-River Falls and a B.S. in Liberal Arts from UW-River Falls.

Mary has worked with many individuals to help them meet such challenges as depression, anxiety, grief and loss, physical and sexual abuse, trauma, addictions, adjustment and relationship issues, gay/lesbian issues, marginalization, and spiritual crises so they can get into their lives more fully. She is trained in the use of EMDR www.emdr.com  and DNMS www.dnmsinstitute.com. She incorporates “mindfulness” in her counseling philosophy and practice.  Mary has taught the course, Interpersonal Effectiveness.  She sometimes facilitates process groups for those taking the Group Dynamics course. She leads groups in Guided Meditation.

Mary enjoys all the arts, including the healing arts. She is a certified Reiki Master. She finds that having a deep appreciation for the natural world of rural Wisconsin provides her with abundant joy and energy for her work as a counselor. She likes to walk, snow shoe, dance, garden, build things, sew, laugh, sing, and be with family and friends.
