Extended Bio of Joe Huth

Joe Huth, M.S., LPC, NCC - Counselor and Case Manager

Joe joined the Counseling Center staff in August 2012.  As an undergraduate he attended Austin Peay State University and earned a B.S. in Public Management.  Joe received his M.S. in Mental Health Counseling from Long Island University in New York.  After receiving his graduate degree, he was assigned as a counselor at the United States Military academy (West Point) where he provided both instruction and therapy to students.  Joe served 21 years in the U.S. Army, including two tours in Iraq.  After completion of his military service he was the supervisor of two Department of Veterans’ affairs mental health clinics – Vet Centers.  The centers, located in La Crosse and Wausau, provide therapy to combat veterans and their family members, as well as service members who suffered sexual trauma while in uniform. 

As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Joe considers himself a generalist, with special interests in anxiety and depression, AODA treatment, trauma, veteran issues, and couples therapy.  In addition to counseling, Joe serves as the centers’ Case Manager and assists in coordinating mental health care for students as well as university employees.  He is also actively involved in veterans’ issues on campus and serves as a member of several community non-profit organizations which promote the health and wellbeing of both veterans and their family members. 

In his free time, Joe enjoys spending time with family and being in the outdoors.  He is an avid outdoorsman and spends much of his free time at his cabin in northern Wisconsin.
