University of Wisconsin - Stout

The College of Arts and Sciences is, by total headcount (162 faculty and instructional academic staff, 14 classified staff) and student course enrollment totals (30,000 annually), the largest of the three colleges at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. CAS has an excellent student to instructional staff ratio of 23-to-1.

The College houses eight academic departments: Art and Design; Biology; Chemistry; English and Philosophy; Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science; Physics; Social Science; and Speech Communication, Foreign Languages, Theatre, and Music.

Currently four programs (majors) reside in the College: Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, Applied Science, Art (Studio Art, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design, Multimedia Design), and Technical Communication.

Twenty-one minors are available to students from the College: Applied Foreign Language, Art, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, English Literature, English Teaching, English Writing, History, Industrial Hygiene, Journalism, Materials, Mathematics, Physics, Sociology, Spanish, Speech Communication, Speech Communication Teaching, Technical Writing, and Women’s Studies.

CAS is also home to several innovative and active centers and co-curricular activities: the Math Teaching and Learning Center, the Design Research Center, the Writing Center, the Ethics Center, the Human Performance Center (in conjunction with the College of Human Development), the Website Usability Testing Center, University Bands, University Choirs, University Forensics, University Theatre, and the John Furlong Gallery.
