Questions To Ask At The Career Conference

The questions you ask at the Career Conference depend upon your goals. Are you interested in finding out about a particular career field? Then ask generalized questions about working within the industry. If you're seeking career or Co-op opportunities with a specific employer, focus your questions on the application and interview process, and ask for specific information about that employer. Below are sample questions:

  1. What types of career opportunities does your organization offer?
  2. What typical majors does your organization hire? What kind of positions do you offer in my major?
  3. What are the job responsibilities for that type of position?
  4. What are the most important qualities or characteristics you look for in hiring?
  5. What are the most important skills necessary to do the job?
  6. What do you look for in an interview?
  7. What recommendations would you make to someone interested in that field?
  8. Are you aware of related occupations that I would be qualified for with a background/major in my field?
  9. How did you get into the organization/career field? What is your background? How does it relate to the position?
  10. What do people in this position like about their job?
  11. Could I set up a time to visit your workplace to talk more about what you do?
  12. Do you know someone in your organization who does _____? Would it be possible for me to set up an informational interview with that person?
  13. Do you have co-op, co-op/internship or summer job opportunities for my major?
  14. How can I pursue my interest in working for you?
  15. Do you know other contacts who might be helpful to me?
