Network Your Job Search
- Let family, relatives, and friends know that you are looking for a co-op/internship or postgraduate job.
- Let faculty and staff know that you are looking for a co-op/internship or postgraduate job.
- Let employers you’ve met through career conference, open houses, student organizations, previous work, etc., know that you are looking for a co-op/internship or postgraduate job.
- Contact “Career Mentors” by major and geographic location on Stout CareerLink.

Conduct unadvertised Co-op/Internship or Postgraduate Job Searching in Desired Geographic Areas (Remember: 70% - 85% of jobs are never advertised)
- Use “ReferenceUSA” to identify employers you would like to work for in a desired geographic area. ReferenceUSA is a web based company research tool available on Stout CareerLink.
Prepare For Interviews
- Attend an interview workshop, do mock interviewing using “Interview Stream” on Stout CareerLink, or register for an interviewing class. List of scheduled workshops can be found at Workshops & Classes.
- Review interviewing skills at Interviewing section of our website.
- Research the organization and position via their website or materials in our Resource Center or campus library. See Researching Employers for Effective Interviews.
- Know your worth; review Salary Information.
- Register for the “Professionalism Social and Work Environment” class to learn about interviewing and to meet and dine with an employer. Information can be found at Workshops & Classes.
After The Interview
- Send a thank you letter and follow-up with companies you interview with. See Job Search Letters for examples.
