Services and Products
The UW-Stout Applied Research Center specializes in providing research assistance to other higher education institutions. The UW-Stout ARC provides a full spectrum of research services to institutions that include:
Benchmarking Surveys
These surveys were developed at UW-Stout and are available to ARC customers. ARC will administer the web-based surveys, analyze the results and provide clients with a data file in Excel and a report. These services are currently available to ARC clients:
- Administering web-based benchmarking Surveys, provide Excel file and report
- Benchmarking data on how participating institution’s results compare to other colleges/universities that have participated in the survey (coming soon)
- Hosting follow-up workshops to implement findings from surveys
- Hosting follow-up focus groups to further investigate survey findings
The ARC is currently offering these benchmarking surveys:
- Student Engagement Survey: this survey was developed based on phenomenological research at UW-Stout. The survey measures how engaged students are in their learning based on definitions students provided about what it means to be highly engaged in learning.
- Campus Violence Prevention Survey
- Mobile Technology Assessment (coming soon)
- Exit Interview Survey (coming soon)
- Alumni and Employer Survey (coming soon)

Custom Services
The UW-Stout ARC also responds to custom requests, including:
- Developing and administering survey instruments
- Developing and administering focus group studies
- Evaluating products, processes and programs, including serving as an external evaluator
ARC staff has specialized expertise in:
- Mobile technology/ubiquitous computing assessment
- Socio-physiological research
- Student engagement, retention, active learning research
- Teaching and learning research
- Program evaluation
- Quality initiatives, including the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award
Data Sharing
The UW-Stout ARC also hosts a data-sharing in higher educational research (PolyDASHER) consortium, which institutions can participate in at no charge. DASHER is geared toward polytechnic institutions, but any higher education institution can join.
