BLUE DEVILS LAND FIVE ON ALL-WIAC BASEBALL SQUAD

MENOMONIE (May 17, 2006) - UW-Stout shortstop Seth Maier (Jr, Park Falls) led five Blue Devils to the 2006 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) baseball team.

Catcher Matt Krause (So, Bonduel) and outfielder Tim Schneider (So, West Salem/Onalaska Lutheran) were first team selections, while pitcher Scott Decker (Jr, Eau Claire/Memorial) and second baseman Luke Schultz (Jr, Menomonie) were honorable mention picks.

Maier, a finalist for the WIAC player of the year, batted .385 for the Blue Devils this season, going 55-for-143 at the plate. Maier was second in the league in runs batted in with 45, only nine short of the school single season record. In conference games only, Maier led the league with 31 RBI.

Maier led the team in home runs with eight, and was fourth in the WIAC. He was fourth in league play in slugging percentage (.664), and sixth in batting average and doubles (12).

In Maier's three years with the Blue Devils, he has been a first team all-WIAC pick all three years. Maier played shortstop this year, but has played outfield, first base, catcher and third base.

Krause moved into the catcher spot and posted solid numbers. Krause banged out seven home runs - only one behind Maier - and ranked third in the WIAC in slugging percentage (.680). Batting .359 (37-for-103), Krause scored 36 runs, had 10 doubles and one triple and led the team in sacrifice hits with eight. Krause threw out 19 runners attempting to steal.

Schneider led the Blue Devils in stolen bases, picking up nine. The lead-off center fielder hit .336 (36-for-107) with 23 runs scored, 11 doubles and two home runs. Schneider has six sacrifice hits and four sacrifice flies.

Schultz was second on the team in batting percentage, connecting on 49-of-130 at-bats (.377). He led the team in runs scored with 40.

Decker ran a 20-inning scoreless streak, all against conference foes late in the season. Decker finished the season with a 2-2 overall record and an earned run average of 3.16, best for all Blue Devil starters.

Stout finished the season at 16-21 overall, 11-11 in the WIAC.
