Upper Iowa Peacocks (0-1) at UW-Stout Blue Devils (0-0, 0-0 WIAC)
Saturday, Sept. 3, 6 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: Stout: After a nearly scoreless first three quarters, UW-Stout and UW-Platteville exploded for 33 points between the two teams in the final stanza. But it was Platteville that would win this final game of the season for both teams, 23-13, Nov. 13 at Platteville. The Pioneers (6-4, 3-4) carried a 3-0 lead well into the third quarter before the fireworks for both teams began. STOUT COACH TODD STROP SAYS: "First and foremost, the biggest thing we're going to stress to our players is Upper Iowa is a Division II, scholarship football team. Basically, coming out of high school, their players were considered better than our players. They haven't won a lot of games over the last two years, but, being in Division II, they play a much tougher schedule. They're not a team to overlook. This is our first game of the year. Our guys have been looking forward to this for nine months. We're just excited to play.

"Offensively, not turning over the football and being patient will be key. Upper Iowa is a good defensive team that doesn't give up the long play. Defensively, we need to shut down the running game and make them try to beat us passing the ball. That's always our mindset going in.

"Every year, that first game is so critical. It lays the foundation of where you're going to go and what you're going to become over the next two-and-a-half months. This is a great group of kids. They work hard and had great two-a-days. We're excited to see what the 2005 season brings."
