Up This Week

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Blue Devils (5-2, 1-1) will try to get back on the winning track with a non-conference contest with Martin Luther College, Monday, Dec. 9, then will have another big task at hand when they host defending NCAA Division III champion UW-Stevens Point, Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. The Blue Devils were the only team to knock off the Pointers (6-1, 1-0) twice during the season and pushed the Pointers to second place in the WIAC, even though they came back for the national title. Stout will wrap up the week and first semester action when they travel to Decorah, Iowa, to face Luther College. Last week: The Blue Devils lost their first conference game in a hard-played 72-69 decision to UW-Eau Claire Dec. 7 in front of a capacity crowd. Stout had little problem with UW-Superior Dec. 4, crushing the Yellowjackets, 92-60. The Pointers opened conference play with a 73-57 win over UW-River Falls, Dec. 4, then dropped their first game of the season, a 4745 overtime decision at Wheaton College, Dec. 7. Player of the week: Laura Verdegan, Jr, Tony, Wis. (Flambeau)

MEN'S BASKETBALL
The Blue Devils (2-3, 1-1) will play three games on the road this week. First, they will travel to UW-Stevens Point to take on the Pointers Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. Stevens Point (5-0, 1-0) comes into the contest ranked 11th nationally in the latest d3hoops.com poll. The Blue Devils swept the Pointers last season 72-61 and 95-87, but the Pointers finished in a three-way tie for first. Stout will then travel south to Viterbo University to take on the Hawks Friday, Dec. 13th at 6:30 p.m. The Hawks (3-4) compete in the Midwest Classic Conference and play at Winona State, Monday, Dec. 9. The Blue Devils defeated the V-Hawks, 71-53 last year. The Blue Devils will finish up their three game road trip as they travel to South Dakota to take on the Marauders of the University of Mary Sunday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. The Marauders are off to a fast start with an overall record of 9-3. The Mary Marauders spoiled Stout's opening game last year, winning 75-74 on the Blue Devils' floor. Last week: Stout dropped their first conference game of the year, an 80-74 loss to UW-Eau Claire, Dec. 11. Stout had little trouble with UW-Superior, Dec. 4, downing the Yellowjackets, 68-48. The Pointers had only one game last week, a 71-63 win over UW-River Falls. The Maruaders defeated Dakota State, 87-72, and Huron, 82-77, last week. Player of the week: Jeff Vandenberghe, Jr, Coon Rapids, Minn.

HOCKEY
The Blue Devils (4-8-0, 0-6-0 NCHA, 0-3-0 WIAC) have a tough schedule this week as they wrap up their first semester of play on the road by traveling to St. Thomas (7-2-2), Thursday, Dec. 12 and to Augsburg (7-4-0), Saturday, Dec. 14.
