TONY BECKHAM INVITED TO TWO POST SEASON BOWL GAMES

MENOMONIE - UW-Stout cornerback Tony Beckham (Sr, Ocala, Fla) has been invited to attend two post-season all-star games.

Beckham, a two-time first team all-conference selection has been invited to the Aztec Bowl in December and to the Rotary Gridiron Classic at the Citrus Bowl in January.

Beckham will not compete in the Aztec Bowl, scheduled for Dec. 15 in Mexico, the same day as UW-Stout's winter graduation ceremonies. Beckham is scheduled to receive his degree in psychology. The Aztec Bowl features NCAA Division III all-stars against all-stars from Mexico. Last season, Stout's Jeff Hazuga competed in the game.

The Gridiron Classic is scheduled for Jan. 26 in Orlando, Fla., and is the official all-star game of the National Football League Players' Association. The game features players from all levels of college.

Beckham repeats as a first team selection and may go down as one of the top cover defensive backs in Stout history. Beckham tended to draw the top receivers and in man-to-man coverage was rarely beaten, head coach Ed Meierkort said.

Beckham finished with 29 solo tackles and 14 assists. He had one interception for 35 yards and this year diversified his game. A speedy runner, Beckham excelled at kickoff returns where he led the league with 22.4 yards per return and returned one 89 yards for a score. Beckham was utilized as a wide receiver and hauled in seven passes for 183 yards and three touchdowns. In the first game of the season, Beckham caught two passes - both for touchdowns - and returned a kickoff for a score.
