STOUT KNOCKS OFF KALAMAZOO FOR SECOND WIN OF TOURNEY

BLOOMINGTON, Ill - Seniors Angie Pinnow (Bruce) and Jessie Ustby (Onalaska) knocked in a run in the top of the seventh to give UW-Stout a 3-1 win over Kalamazoo College in the second day of the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament, Sunday, April 1 in Bloomington, Ill.

The win was the Blue Devils' (5-10) only win of the day as they dropped a 3-1 decision to UW-Superior and gave up 10 runs in the first inning in an 11-3 loss to Illinois Wesleyan.

Pinnow went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Ustby was 2-for-3 against Kalamazoo as Stout scattered seven hits. Tracy Kokke (Fr, Galesville) picked up her third win of the season, tossing a three-hitter.

In the rain-delayed contest with Superior, the Yellowjackets carried over a 1-0 lead from Saturday, allowed Stout back into the game in the fifth when Erin Slaikeu (Sr, North St. Paul, Minn) hit a double to drive in Janel Krenz (Sr, McFarland). Superior came back with single unearned runs in the fifth and sixth.

After Stout gave up 10 runs in the top of the first, Monica Knudtson (Fr, Holmen) came on in relief and only gave up one unearned run while striking out three. Stout scored a solo run in the first and added two runs in the fifth before the game was called to the eight-run rule.

Stout will be at Augsburg College, Tuesday, April 3 at 2:30 p.m., then are hoping to host their own tournament, April 7-8, if field conditions allow.

BLUE DEVILS SPLIT IN FIRST DAY OF ILLINOIS TOURNEY

BLOOMINGTON, Ill - UW-Stout split two games and had another rain delayed in the first day of the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament, Saturday, March 31 in Bloomington, Ill.

The Blue Devils committed three errors in the top of the ninth inning to drop a 16-11 decision to Monmouth, Ill, College, but bounced back to take a 4-2 decision over Hope, Mich, College.

Stout trailed UW-Superior, 1-0, after one-and-a-half innings before the rains came to delay the game to Sunday.

Against Monmouth, Stout scored four runs in both the third and fifth innings to hang onto a 10-5 lead after five. Monmouth chiseled away at the lead, scoring two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to tie. Each team scored a single run in the eighth in Stout's first extra inning game of the season. Three Stout errors in the ninth led to Monmouth's five-run inning.

Stout (4-8) scored three runs in the top of the fourth on a bases loaded triple by Janel Krenz (Sr, McFarland) and a single run in the fifth to offset Hope's two-run sixth inning.

Jenni Bostrom (Fr, Circle Pines, Minn) struck out 12 and allowed no earned runs to pick up her first collegiate win.
