BLUE DEVILS OVERCOME TURNOVERS TO DOWN NORTHWESTERN

MENOMONIE - UW-Stout held Northwestern College scoreless the first eight-minutes, 24-seconds of the game, then had to overcome 29 turnovers to take a 78-57 win over the Eagles, Tuesday, Nov. 21 at Johnson Fieldhouse.

Northwestern did catch up to the Blue Devils (2-1) in the first half and tied the game at 21 apiece with three minutes left in the half. A couple of free throws by Sara Kahl (Fr, Menomonie) and two 3-pointers by Jesse Herrman (So, Barron) gave Stout a 31-25 halftime lead.

The Blue Devils put on a spurt to open the second half, going on a 17-6 run over the first five minutes and were never seriously threatened again. Herrman opened the run with two buckets and Amy Zelinger (Jr, Racine) hit two 3-pointers to keep it alive.

Herrman led all scorers with 14 points and Tanya Halbach (So, Janesville) added 13 points. A full-court defense kept Northwestern at bay all evening, as the Eagles (4-1) only shot 27 percent from the floor. Renee DeMars led Northwestern with 13 points, and Alicia Beedle had 10.

Stout is off until Tuesday, Nov. 28 when they travel to Northland College. Stout will open the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) by hosting UW-Platteville at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2.
