MADISON (May 3, 2008) - University of Wisconsin women's basketball coach Lisa Stone completed the final addition to her coaching staff today with the announcement that Oties Epps, an assistant at Cleveland State for the past four years and a former UW-Stout men's basketball player, will join the Badgers. Epps’ contract began May 1.

Epps has seven years of coaching experience in both the Horizon League and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) where he spent three years as an assistant men’s coach at his alma mater, UW-Stout.

Oties EppsStone, who recently added Kathi Bennett, a former head coach at UW-Oshkosh, to her staff, said, “It is my pleasure to announce the addition of Oties Epps to the women’s basketball staff. He brings a tremendous basketball background and recruiting contacts to Wisconsin. Oties will be responsible for recruiting, scouting and player development, primarily the guards.“

This past year, Epps was the top assistant to CSU head coach and former UW assistant Kate Peterson Abiad, who led Cleveland State its best season in 24 years. The Vikings won their first Horizon League Tournament title and received their first NCAA bid losing to the eventual NCAA runner-up champion, Stanford University.

The 19 wins were the second most in school history and the 19-14 record was the fifth best turnaround in Division I in the nation last year. Epps helped coach first team all-conference performer Kailey Klein and the Horizon League defensive player of the year in Dominique Butler (Milwaukee, Wis.). Klein, a sophomore from Cherry, Ill., scored a school season record 654 points and was named the Horizon League Tournament MVP.

A native of Highland Park, Mich., Epps joined Peterson-Abiad in 2004-05. His duties included working with the guards and helping with overall player development, while assisting with recruiting. He also served as the strength and conditioning liaison, organized the community service activities, and provided opponent scouts and game strategies. While at CSU, he assisted in signing four McDonald’s All-America nominees and two Canadian players who were members of the Canadian Junior National team.

Epps began his playing career at Mount Senario College located in Ladysmith, Wis., where he was a small college first team All-American and a first-team NAIA west region pick in 1996-97, and earned all-conference honors three times. He went on to earn his bachelor's degree in human development from UW-Stout  in 2002.

He continued at UW-Stout earning his master’s degree in education in 2006. While a graduate student, he served as an assistant coach on the men's basketball staff. His duties included working with the perimeter players, assisting with recruiting, coordinating opponent scouting reports and implementing a weight training program for the athletes.

Epps, and his wife Kelly, have three daughters Makayla, Madison and Aliah.

Warhawks end Blue Devil season

WHITEWATER (February 25, 2008) - UW-Whitewater used their inside size to their advantage and put an end to UW-Stout's season with a 78-67 win in the quarterfinals of the WIAC tournament Monday.

The bigger and top seeded Warhawks (22-4) held a 40-18 advantage off the glass and held eighth seeded Stout (7-19) to only 12 defensive rebounds, while snagging 18 offensive rebounds to set up second chance shots throughout the evening.

Forward Kori Vernon collected 13 rebounds, including nine offensive boards, and scored 19 points to help power the Warhawks into the next round of the tournament. Myles McKay scored 22 points to lead Whitewater. Forward Billy Kolinske finished the night with 14 points.

Stout stayed with the Warhawks for the first 13 minutes of the game, holding as much as a seven point lead early. The Blue Devils led 22-20 with 7:33 left in the first half, but Whitewater closed out the period on a 19-4 run to take a 39-26 halftime lead.

As he has done most of the season, Miles Webb (Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn) closed out his career by leading Stout with 24 points. Webb finishes his one-year Stout career with 494 points, good for seventh on the single season list.

While one career was ending, another may just be blooming as Eric Hostetter (Fr, Stillwater, Minn) finished with 13 points. Hostetter, who joined the team at semester, has scored in double figures in seven of the last nine games. During that stretch, he has started six games.

Trailing by as many as 20 points with eight minutes left in the second half, the Blue Devils got as close as seven points with 40 seconds left in the game.

The Warhawks will host UW-Superior, Wednesday, Feb. 27. The Yellowjackets defeated UW-Oshkosh for the second straight game. In the other game, UW-Eau Claire will meet UW-Stevens Point. The Blugolds upset second seeded UW-Platteville, 84-80.

Blue Devils beat Eau Claire to move into tourney

EAU CLAIRE (February 23, 2008) - UW-Stout knew going into their game at UW-Eau Claire that they would need to win to snag the eighth and final spot in the WIAC men's basketball tournament.

Coming into Saturday's game at Zorn Arena, Stout was tied with UW-River Falls for the final spot. If the teams would finish with the same record, River Falls would most likely win the tie-breaker. The Falcons lost to UW-Whitewater, setting up the must win for the Blue Devils.

Not to worry, Stout, who beat River Falls the last time out, never trailed the Blugolds and went on to a 78-65 win over the Blugolds.

Only five Blue Devils scored, and three tallied all but 12 of Stout's 78 points. Miles Webb (Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn) scored a game-high 28 points, 16 in the first half. Eric Hostetter (Fr, Stillwater, Minn) scored 20 and Jerrel Enerson-Matthews (So, Anoka, Minn) added 18 points. Alex Mason (Jr, St. Paul, Minn) and John Donald (Jr, Milwaukee) each scored six points.

Eric Heisler (Sr, Savage, Minn) didn't score, but did pull down 10 rebounds for Stout.

Blue Devils play well in second half, beat River Falls

RIVER FALLS (February 20, 2008) - UW-Stout fell behind at halftime, but outplayed UW-River Falls in the second half, outscoring them 46-30, and took a 75-62 win, Wednesday, at the Karges Center, to keep their postseason hopes alive.

River Falls (9-15, 3-12) jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the first five minutes, but Stout (6-18, 3-12) battled back and went on a 14-7 run over the final 7:51 of the half, fueled by seven points from Jerrel Enerson-Matthews (So, Anoka, Minn). River Falls took a 32-29 lead into the locker rooms.

With the game tied with 14:14 remaining in the game, Stout went on a 9-0 spree, and then hit five straight three-point attempts, with Eric Hostetter (Fr, Stillwater, Minn) and E-Matt each hitting two. That gave Stout a 13-point lead that they eventually stretched to 15 with a minute and a half to play, sealing a much-needed win.

Hostetter collected a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, both of which were game highs. Enerson-Matthews also had 19 points.

Brady Hannigan led the Falcons with 16 points and seven rebounds.

Stout is now even with River Falls in the WIAC standings with each team having one game to play. Stout will be at UW-Eau Claire on Saturday, Feb. 23, when River Falls will be at UW-Whitewater

The Blue Devils (5-18, 2-12) scored first, and held an early lead for about a minute and a half, but the Eagles (11-13, 6-9) pulled out a 15-0 run to grab a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the game.

Stout got within five points of La Crosse after a three-pointer by Jerrel Enerson-Matthews (So, Anoka, Minn) with 7:13 remaining in the game, but La Crosse went on a 14-5 run to take a 14-point lead with under two minutes to play, sealing the game for good.

Stout will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 20, when they travel to UW-River Falls in a key game determining if Stout will continue their season into postseason play.

Blue Devils complete series sweep of Superior

MENOMONIE (February 13, 2008) - UW-Stout came to play in their final home game of the season and took their second win of the season against UW-Superior, 93-88, Wednesday, at Johnson Fieldhouse.

The Blue Devils (5-17, 2-11) trailed for much of the first half as they shot 42 percent compared to Superior's 50, and turned the ball over five times, while taking it away only once. However, they kept a manageable deficit, and at the halftime buzzer, Miles Webb (Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn) drained a three to take a 40-39 lead into the locker rooms.

In the second half, Superior (8-14, 4-10) only led twice, each time by just one point. Stout increased their lead to nine points two seperate times, and converted on their free throws late to put the win in the books.

Stout put on a show for their final home crowd of the season as two Blue Devils threw down dunks. John Donald (Jr, Milwaukee) flushed the first of the night when he took an assist from Webb, and later Jerrel Enerson-Matthews (So, Anoka, Minn) dunked another to give his team an eight point lead midway through the second half.

Webb recorded a double-double on the night with his game-high 30 points and 11 rebounds. He shot 6-8 from beyond the arc and 6-6 from the charity stripe. E-Matt added 22 points on 8-16 shooting and a team-high six assists.

After Miles Webb's (Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn) layup with 12 minutes to play gave Stout (3-3, 0-1) a 41-39 lead - their first of the second half - four different Blugolds hit four straight three-pointers to help get back a 10-point lead. That margin was never less than five the rest of the way, and was increased to 12 at one point.

Eau Claire's (4-2, 1-0) leading scorer was Dan Beyer, who dropped in 20 points to go with seven rebounds. Ryan Shea put up 17 points for the Blugolds, and Dan Mullen scored 11, shooting 3-6 from beyond the arc.

Puget Sound upends Blue Devils in Turkey championship

MENONONIE (November 25, 2007) - The University of Puget Sound came into the championship game of the UW-Stout Super 8 Turkey Shootout averaging 104 points per game. UW-Stout has talked about playing an uptempo game this season. The two came to a conclusion when the teams met, with Puget Sound taking an 85-70 win over the Blue Devils at Johnson Fieldhouse Sunday afternoon.

Except for the first basket of the game, and a brief 17-16 lead with 13:19 left in the first half, Stout never led in the contest, although several times the Blue Devils (3-2) forged into a tied score, including midway through the second half. Stout trailed by as much as 13 points early in the second half, but tied the score at 55 apiece.

But the undefeated Loggers (5-0) quickly jumped out to a five point lead on a 3-pointer and a layup by Taylor Marsh. Stout got as close as two points on a Jason Theis (Jr, Chaska, Minn) layup with nine minutes left to play.

Puget Sound took a 41-31 halftime lead, forcing 14 first half turnovers by Stout and connecting on 7-of-18 3-pointers before the break. The Loggers added two more 3-pointers in the second half to finish with nine. Stout could not connect from beyond the arc, hitting only 1-of-17 treys. Stout finished with 23 turnovers to 11 for Puget Sound.

Stout's Miles Webb (Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn) led all scorers with 23 points. Alex Mason (Jr, St. Paul, Minn) had 16 points and Jerrel Enerson-Matthews (So, Anoka, Minn) contributed 12 points.

Puget Sound was led by Robert Krauel with 20 points. Jason Foster and Taylor Marsh each had 16 points and Antwan Williams, 15 points.

Stout is off until Saturday, Dec. 1 when they host UW-Eau Claire at 5 p.m. in the conference opener.

In the consolation game, Bemidji State (1-4) overcame a one point halftime deficit to pick up their first win of the season with a 69-59 win over Northland College (1-3).

Northland had overcome a 14 point first half deficit and went on a four-minute, 18-0 run late in the first half to hold a 32-31 lead at the break. Bemidji took a 45-34 lead four minutes into the second half and never looked back.

Kyle Scott scored 13 points for Bemidji. Brady Fairbanks and Seth Haake each added 12 points. Northland's Jordan Arneson took scoring honors with 25 points, hitting six 3-pointers. Ryan Cannata added 11 points for the Lumberjacks.

Blue Devils advance to championship game

MENONONIE (November 24, 2007) - UW-Stout's Miles Webb (Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn) scored 15 points in the second half and the Blue Devils' bench outscored the Northland College bench 10-1 after intermission as Stout defeated the Lumberjacks at the UW-Stout Super 8 Turkey Shootout at Johnson Fieldhouse Saturday.

Stout will face the University of Puget Sound in the championship game at approximately 3 p.m. The Loggers defeated Bemidji State, 91-68, in the men's tournament opener. Northland will meet Bemidji at 11 a.m. in the consolation game.

Webb was relatively quiet in the first half, hitting only 3-of-9 attempts from the field to tally six points. Webb was much more productive after the break, connecting on 5-of-9 field goal attempts, including two 3-pointers, and three free throws to finish the game with 21 points, the only Stout player in double digits.

Brian Wickboldt (So, Clayton) scored all four of his points in the second half off the bench, while Jerrod Buchholtz (Fr, Durand) and Jesse Piehl (Jr, Tripoli, Iowa) each added a bucket. The bench was equally key in helping Stout build a 38-21 halftime lead. Buchholtz had six first half points to finish with eight on the night. Jason Theis (Jr, Chaska, Minn) and Chris Jardine (Fr, Port Wing) each had three points as the deeper Stout bench held a 16-9 first half advantage over Northland.

Northland's Ryan Cannata led all scorers with 23 points.

In the first game, the University of Puget Sound ran away from NCAA Division II Bemidji State, 91-68. The Loggers (4-0) blew open the game midway through the first half and finished the final 11 minutes of the stanza on a 27-7 run to take a 46-18 halftime lead.

The Beavers (0-4) made a comeback of sorts in the second half, outscoring Puget Sound 50-45, but it wouldn't be nearly enough.

Taylor Marsh led the Loggers with 20 points. Robert Krauel and Austin Boyce came off the bench to score 16 and 10 points, respectively. Brady Fairbanks led Bemidji with 17 points.

The Blue Devils (2-1) took their final lead of the game when Jerrod Buchholtz (Fr, Durand) hit a 3-pointer seven minutes into the game to give Stout a 19-17 lead. But the Warriors (6-0) went on an 18-5 run and never looked back. Winona held a 45-27 halftime lead and pushed that to 20 points on their first basket of the half and never led by less than 20 points the rest of the night.

Miles Webb WIAC player of the week

Miles WebbMENOMONIE (November 20, 2007) - UW-Stout guard Miles Webb (Sr, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Park Center) was named the WIAC men's basketball athlete of the week after scoring 52 points over two games as Stout won their own tip-off tournament.

The Blue Devils defeated Finlandia University (Mich.), 93-89, in overtime in the opener and Viterbo University, 81-63, in the championship game. Webb tallied 32 points against Finlandia, the most points by a UW-Stout player since 2003, and added a game-high 11 rebounds.  He sealed the Finlandia game with two free throws in the final seconds of play.

Against Viterbo, Webb led the Blue Devils with 20 points, four steals, two assists and four rebounds.

Blue Devils win own Tip-Off Tournament

MENOMONIE (November 17, 2007) - UW-Stout overcame a short cold stretch to start the second half and went on to win their own UW-Stout Tip-Off Tournament, Sunday at Johnson Fieldhouse, with an 81-63 win over Viterbo University.

Holding a 45-28 halftime lead, the Blue Devils (2-0) recorded only one basket over the first six minutes of the second half as Viterbo whittled away at the lead to pull to within eight points, 47-39, before Stout pushed the lead back into double figures when Jerrel Enerson-Matthews (So, Anoka, Minn) drained a shot at 13:30.

But like a pesky little brother, the V-Hawks (1-3) would not go away quietly and pecked away at every lead Stout could build. Viterbo got as close as seven points, 65-58, with just over three minutes remaining when the Blue Devils went on a 11-0 run, with point guard Alex Mason (Jr, St. Paul, Minn) leading the way with five made free throws during the run.

For the second consecutive game, the Blue Devils were led offensively by Miles Webb (Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn) with 20 points. Enerson-Matthews tallied 19 points, Mason finished with 17 points and Eric Heisler (Sr, Savage, Minn) 13. The Blue Devils shot a steady 51.7 percent (30-of-58) for the game, shooting 51.5 percent in the first half, 52 percent in the second.

Viterbo, which shot only 30.9 percent (21-of-68) for the game, got 27 points from Eric Ambrose.

In the consolation game, Finlandia University (0-2) started off on a 17-7 run over the first six minutes of the second half, but Mayville State (3-5) went on a 15-1 run to take a 68-61 lead and never trailed and the Comets went on to an 85-72 win.

The loss overshadowed a shooting display by Finlandia guard Ryan Artley, who finished with 41 points. Artley was 12-for-18 from the floor, 8-for-12 from 3-point range and 9-for-12 from the line. The Lions' second leading scorer was Shawn Wickersheim, who finished with 10 points. Finlandia shot 35.6 percent for the game.

Marques Benjamin led Mayville (3-5) with 20 points and Tremel Gilot added 19 points. Ron Dunlap tossed in 12 points, and Dave Johnson and Ethan Everson each tallied 10 points. The Comets shot 48.4 percent for the game, but really turned the corner in the second half, hitting 56.7 percent (17-30) from the floor.

Mayville State took an early lead, but Artley scored 19 points in the first half to make things close throughout the stanza. The first half had eight tied scores as Mayville led, 40-39 at halftime.

Blue Devils win opener in dramatic fashion

MENOMONIE (November 16, 2007) - Finlandia University left UW-Stout's full court game flat in the first half, but the Blue Devils came back in the second half to take a hard-fought and nail-biting last second 93-89 overtime win in the UW-Stout Tip-Off Tournament at Johnson Fieldhouse Friday.

Jerrel Enerson-Matthews (So, Anoka, Minn) got a breakaway basket with 12 seconds in the overtime period to put Stout up 91-89, then Finlandia's Tyler Gordon was called with a charge to give the ball back to Stout. Miles Webb (Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn), who finished with a game-high 32 points, was fouled on the in-bound pass and drained both shots for the final score - and the biggest lead of the game for either team since midway through the second half.

Stout will play Viterbo University in the championship game, Saturday, Nov. 17 at 3 p.m. Viterbo defeated Mayville State, 78-68, in the opener. The consolation game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

Coming off a 3-17 season last year, Finlandia did not understand it was supposed roll over and play dead for the home team in the first game of the tournament as the Lions, which held a 45-34 halftime lead, kept hanging around and trading leads with the Blue Devils.

From the eight minute mark in the second half to the end of regulation, the lead by either team was never more than two points. Stout's Joshua Huettl (So, Eau Claire) tied the score at 81-81 with 12 seconds left in regulation and Finlandia could not get a shot off.

Save for the opening minute of the game, Stout took their first lead, 53-52, at 12:26 of the second half on a Webb bucket. The Blue Devils built a five point lead on a 3-pointer by Webb and a layup by Alex Mason (Jr, St. Paul, Minn).

But the Lions moved back out in front, 66-64, at 6:38 on a 3-pointer by Tyler Gordon and a basket by Ryan Artley. The game went back and forth the rest of the night, including a flurry of 3-pointers around the three minute mark.

Gordon led Finlandia (0-1) with 30 points and Ryan Artley added 24. Stout got 15 points from Enerson-Matthews and 12 points from John Donald (Jr, Milwaukee). Stout crashed the boards for 57 rebounds to Finlandia's 29. Webb finished with 11 rebounds.

In the first game, Viterbo University jumped out to a 23-9 first half lead, but Mayville State made a game of it before Viterbo pulled away, then hung on, to pick up their first win of the season with a 78-68 decision to advance to the championship game.

Viterbo (1-2) built as much as an 18 point first half lead and held a 38-29 halftime lead. But the Comets (2-5) chipped away at a 12 point deficit and went on an 8-3 run to pull to within three points, 71-68, with 1:39 remaining in the game when Ron Dunlap hit a lay-up. The V-Hawks iced the game by nailing five free throws down the stretch to win.

Dunlap led all scorers with 22 points. Tremel Gilot added 15 points and Ethan Evenson chipped in 12. Eric Ambrose led four Viterbo players in double figures with 18 points. Drew Knutson finished with 14 points, Cornelius Bardney came off the bench for 13 points and Scott Buschman had 11 points to go with his game-high 13 rebounds.

Andrist announces 2007-08 recruit class

Eddie AndristMENOMONIE (August 1, 2007) - UW-Stout men’s basketball coach Eddie Andrist filled out his 2007-08 recruiting class with transfers that will be coming in as freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors and also added several true freshmen to the mix as the Blue Devil introduce a class that is heavy in back court players.

Of the eight players listed by Andrist, two come directly to Stout from high school, five of them come in as guards, two as forwards and one as a 7-foot, 1-inch center who began his collegiate career at Stout.

Jesse Piehl (Jr, Tripoli, Iowa) was one of three 7-foot players on the Stout roster when he came to Menomonie three years ago. Piehl sat out his first year, then saw limited action during his freshman season. He transferred to Gogebic Community College last season and returns to Stout as a junior.

"Jesse gained some valuable experience at Gogebic Community College," said Andrist. "We truly believe that he is ready to step in and contribute during the rigors of a tough WIAC schedule. He gives us back some valuable height that we lost with the graduation of 7-footers John and Jake Nonemacher."

The Blue Devils were thin in guards last season, but this recruiting class overflows with talented guards.

Miles Webb (Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn) took a western path before finding his way to Menomonie. After becoming the all-time leading scorer at Brooklyn Park, Minn, Center High School,Webb began his collegiate career at the University of Minnesota. He transferred to North Dakota State College of Sciences, a two-year junior college, where he led NDSCS to the conference title. Webb continued his journey west when he signed with NCAA Division I University of Idaho last season, starting one game for the Vandals and twice scoring 18 points against Division I competition.

Webb breaks tradition and moves east and closer to home with the Blue Devils, where he plans to pursue a degree in psychology.

"I cannot tell everyone enough how excited we are having Miles join our Blue Devil basketball family," said Andrist. "A player of Miles stature and ability can certainly lead us back to the NCAA tournament."

"Having played Big Ten basketball and being recruited by some of the top NCAA Division I programs across the country gives you an idea of what Miles Webb brings to the table," said assistant coach Lionel Jones, who coached Webb in high school. "He is a pure scorer with the ability to beat you in so many different ways. He is one of the best pure shooters that I have seen at any level."

Jarrad Knutson (Fr, Glenville, Minn) holds the majority of the scoring records at his Glenville-Emmons High School. Knutson averaged 23.3 points last season and set the school individual scoring record (41 points), the single season scoring record (632) and the all-time school scoring record (1568). Knutson averaged 11.6 rebounds per game last season, and is capable of scoring both inside and outside.

"Jarrad is easily one of the more versatile athletes that we will bring to the Blue Devil program this fall," Andrist said. "He is a scorer and a shooter and has the body size to defend inside and the quickness to defend outside."

Jamal Khan (So, Maple Grove, Minn) comes from Park Center High School where he averaged 16 points and seven assists per game, while shooting 46 percent from the three-point line. Khan, an honorable mention all-state pick, set the school single season assist record (206), breaking a record held by former Blue Devil guard Jason Clopton. Khan once recorded 16 assists in a single game.

Alex Mason (So, St. Paul, Minn), a Humboldt High School graduate, has WIAC point guard written all over himself, Andrist said. After scoring more than 1000 high school points, 400 assists and 102 steals, Mason moved on to Mesabi Community College where he earned all-conference honors in leading the team in steals and assists. Mason also scored 43 points in a single game.

"Having watched Alex play at Mesabi, my immediate evaluation projected him as a WIAC point guard," Andrist said. "He has great court vision and will make everyone better on our team."

Jerrod Buchholtz (Fr, Durand) was actually at Stout during the winter semester, but did not play basketball. After spending one semester at Viterbo University, Buchholtz transferred.

At Durand High School, Buchholtz averaged 19 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals during a senior year that saw him shoot 52 percent from the field, 44 percent from three-point range and 86 percent from the free throw line.

"I have always been amazed at how well he shoots the ball," Andrist said. "Jerrod is a true shooter and we certainly could have used him last year."

Forward John Donald (So, Milwaukee), a transfer from Iowa Lakes Community College, rounds out the list.

Donald played as a freshman at Iowa Lakes, averaging 15 points and six rebounds. Injuries kept him off the hardwood last season.

"John Donald is another key piece to the puzzle that will get us back to the top of the WIAC," said Andrist. "We really like the view up there and Donald will help put us back on top."

Nonemachers to take game to Germany

MENOMONIE (April 17, 2007) - Sprechen sie deutsch?

UW-Stout's 7-foot centers Jacob Nonemacher (Sr, Kalispell, Mont) and John Nonemacher (Sr, Kalispell, Mont) will have to learn at least a little German as they will be taking a shot at life in professional basketball in Germany. The twins have signed with a European sports management agency and are expecting to attend a pro camp in Duesseldorf, Germany, June 22-24 to prepare for the season.

"Germany has one of the best basketball leagues inthe world, along with a few other European countries," John Nonemacher said. "The agency we signed with is located in Germany, but that does not mean that we will playing in Germany in the fall...it could be Italy, Spain, Greece or so on."

Jacob Nonemacher John Nonemacher

Nonemacher doesn't see a lot of differences between European basketball and basketball in the US, beyond the shape of the free throw lane.

"As far as we can tell, it is like what you would watch during the Olympics or the World Championships," John said. "The rim is 10 feet hit and the ball is the same size."

Jacob Nonemacher was the Blue Devils' leading rebounder with 9.2 rebounds per contest, ranking him second in the WIAC for the 2007 season. Nonemacher was also second in the WIAC in blocked shots (3.28), fourth in field goal shooting percentage (.556) and 10th in scoring (14.4). He finished his Stout career ranked 10th on the all-time rebounding list with 688.

John Nonemacher concluded his career with his best season, averaging 6.1 points and 3.5 rebounds. He was second on the team in field goal percentage (.564) and scored a career-high 16 points against UW-La Crosse.

Nonemachers are looking at their overseas trip as a stepping stone.

"We plan on playing at the highest level of international basketball," John said. "Also, we will be working on our game to possibly make a push here at the NBA. The opportunity to play as a professional when we did not play in high school is something that we are very excited about."

John and Jacob will participate in the Scorers 1st Showcase 2007 in Düsseldorf/Hilden (more information on the Scorers 1st Showcase can be found at www.pro-exposure.com).

Andrist to return to Qatar to coach national team

Eddie Andrist

MENOMONIE (April 16, 2007) - UW-Stout men's basketball coach Eddie Andrist could be living out the Olympic dream.

Andrist spent his spring break selecting the 16-member men's national basketball team for the tiny Arabian peninsula country of Qatar. This will be Andrist's second foray into international basketball with Qatar. Andrist coached the Qatar Under-20 national team to the Asian Youth Championships in 2000.

Andrist, along with former Blue Devil assistant coach Eric Gardow, will return to Qatar in May to begin training, a training program that will take the team to the countries of Slovenia, Egypt, back to Qatar, Taiwan, and China before traveling to Japan for the Asian Games and the Olympic qualifier in late July.

"Asian basketball talent and focus is at an all time high and to win on this big of stage will be extremely difficult," Andrist said. "There will be no margin for error so the health and fitness of our team will be critical. The team will have to learn my system quickly in order to have a chance."

If the Qatar team wins the Asian Games - China, with NBA superstar Yao Ming leading the way, is the favorite - they would qualify to compete in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, with Andrist as the head coach, living out an Olympic dream.
