Connecting with Writing Support through Student Support Services
If you’re a student working with ASPIRE-Disability Services and have questions about how to begin/research/write a paper for any of your courses, call ASPIRE in Bowman Hall 206 at 232-2995 and schedule an appointment to meet with Margaret Kitze, the Writing Specialist. I am available to meet with you Monday through Thursday, 8:30-3:30.
Appointments are 30 minutes in length and you can schedule one per day and two per week.
- Longer than 30 minutes possible if approved by Margaret and there is no student scheduled at that time.
- If there are extenuating circumstances and it’s approved by Margaret, a student can have two appointments/day or more than two/week.
A few simple things to remember:
- If you’re not sure about the writing assignment, it is better to see your instructor before you come to see me.
- We can work together from any point in the writing process - even before you begin writing if you’re stuck and just can’t get started.
- Bring assignment with you.
- Give yourself plenty of time to meet for writing assistance prior to due date.
- This is not an editing service. It is a facilitated writing process. That means you and I sit next to one another and talk, discuss, write, edit, change things. I cannot edit writing via email or if you just drop off your paper.
The following sites can be very helpful to you. They are online writing labs/sites that will answer almost any question you may have about writing -- from the simple to the complex.
“Writing is easy. All you do is stare at a blank sheet of paper until drops of blood form on your forehead.” Gene Fowler (1890-1960)
Writing Tip of the Week: |
“When confronted with a writing assignment, some of us mistakenly think that clear sentences and ideas should come easily.” But, in truth, they seldom do. Others of us “assume that whatever appears in [our] brain is good stuff.” Again, the truth is that seldom works. To avoid both of these common mistakes, try brainstorming.
