University
of Wisconsin-Stout Policy
| SEGREGATED FEE ASSESSMENT
1.0 BACKGROUND
Each university is authorized to administer its own segregated university
fee under basic policies set forth in Wisconsin
Statues Section 36.09 (3) and (5), UW
System Financial Policy and Procedure Paper (FPPP) #37, and various
biennial budget policy papers.
Assessment of the segregated fee will be administered through separate
fee schedules developed for undergraduate and graduate level credits.
In each fee schedule, segregated fee charges begin at 0.5 credit to a maximum
of 12 undergraduate credits and 9 graduate credits, with each credit proportionately
more expensive than the previous 0.5 credit. A student who registers
for courses at different times will be assessed segregated fees on the
combined credit load.
3.2 Segregated fee collections will be distributed to the appropriate accounts such as those listed in section 3.1. 3.3 The official schedules of undergraduate and graduate tuition and segregated fees for each academic term are available in the Office of Student Business Services, University publications which refer to segregated fee rates should speak of the single fee, total credit concept. 3.4 Each fee schedule will show segregated fee costs based on the total number of credits carried in a term. Terms are defined as Fall semester, Spring semester, Intersession, and Summer, with ASummer@ covering everything after close of Spring term to the start of Fall term. For courses in which a student registers at two different times and which span terms, the course starting dates will determine the term or terms for fee assessment. 3.5 Students participating in a cooperative education program, internship, student teaching, etc., will pay the same fees per credit as those students attending classes on campus. 3.6 Extramurally funded tuition from contracts or grants must provide
for segregated fees based on UW
System FPPP #2. If tuition is waived on the basis that instructional
costs are totally covered by the grant, provisions must be made to cover
the segregated fees.
4.2 This waiver is intended for course sections in which students will not have access to segregated fee funded facilities, services and activities. Segregated fees will be waived for specific sections of courses with permission of the UW-Stout Course Fee Committee. Examples of sections that may be waived include sections of off-campus courses, distance education courses, study abroad courses, and customized training courses. 4.3 The textbook rental fee may be waived for specific
sections of courses with permission of the manager of Instructional Resource
Services and approval of the course fee committee. Examples of sections
that may be waived include sections of off-campus courses, distance education
courses, study abroad courses, and customized training courses.
