Community Briefings are designed to produce a two-way dialog between alcohol abuse prevention volunteers and the general public. Goals for these presentations:
- Raise awareness of the youth alcohol use problem;
- Gather information about community perceptions;
- Correct misperceptions;
- Suggest community group prevention projects; and
- Recruit assistance for strategies already underway.
The Community Briefing model is based on the Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol (CMCA) project, University of Minnesota, http://www.epi.umn.edu/alcohol/. CMCA describes a grassroots organizing process to change the alcohol use culture and impact youth alcohol abuse. The focus is on availability reduction though changes in local policies and ordinances.
In an effort to help others organize Community Briefings, we are offering the following program resources. Please reference the source of these materials if you duplicate them for your use.
