A member of the 1954-55 football teams, Orv Nelson, a 1956 Stout graduate, returned to the university in 1963 to join the faculty. During his 37 years at Stout, he taught a variety of courses and held many positions. His grants and contracts generated more than $13 million for the Stout community.

The Reminiscence Speaker Series, sponsored by the Stout Historical Association of the Dunn County Historical Society, features talks that illuminate the "spirit of Stout." The series has made a significant contribution to Stout's oral history and continues to document the university's unique culture and history. The event is free and open to the university and Menomonie community. Participants may bring a lunch.
