Move to Germany a Slam Dunk

Barnard-Schmitz took the majority of her graduate courses on campus while she was stateside in the summers, taking only one basketball season off to earn her degree.
When it came time to complete her practicum, Barnard-Schmitz interned with the Department of Defense Dependent Schools, which the military established for the children of U.S. military personnel serving abroad, in Bitburg, Germany—just an hour away from Luxembourg. It turned out to be the right career move.
Today Barnard-Schmitz is a school psychologist in the DoDDS system, living and working in Germany near her husband’s family. Her schools overlook picturesque German villages and castles in areas that have been inhabited since Roman times.
