Therefore, it is highly recommended that the PPST be taken prior to enrolling at UW-Stout. PPST registration information can be found at the School of Education website.

Transfer Credits

If you are attending:

An accredited college, technical college or community college

As long as your courses are in a similar curricular area and you passed with a grade of "D" or better, the credit should transfer. Some degree programs may require at least a "C" grade (or better) in order to use the course for their program.

A non-accredited institution

Credit is awarded in both the major area and liberal arts on the basis of examination — either by the appropriate department at UW-Stout, or a passing score on a nationally recognized test. A student may also supply course syllabi from the work they completed to earn credit.

Military or work experience

Credit may be awarded for military experience or military school training.  Depending on the branch of the military, students are requested to supply their military services transcript to the Transfer Coordinator in the Admissions office to have the credit recommended by the American Council on Education be given for training to the student record.

To request your military transcript, go to the appropriate site:

Work Experience

Credit may be awarded for related work experience or other work-related training. Currently, the only majors that allow credit for work experience are the B.S. in Career, Technical Education and Training; the B.S. in Information Communications Technology; and the B.S. in Management.  A Work Experience Portfolio is required. Contact the program director of the major for additional information on submitting a Work Experience Portfolio for review.

For other majors, you may be able to "test out" of a course by means of Credit by Departmental Exam where you feel you may have the knowledge or experience required -- contact the department offering the course.

Credit may be awarded for certification received if approved by the American Council on Education. A copy of the certification received must be provided to the Transfer Coordinator in the Admissions Office for review and possible awarding of credit.
