Modern, well-equipped facilities support UW-Stout's specialized programs.

The University Library has a collection of more than a million items, including books, periodicals, video tapes, and items on microfilm and microfiche. A computerized card catalog allows quick and easy reference through terminals located throughout the library and campus. People with visual impairments or learning disabilities may gain access to the collection by using specialized equipment.

The College of Arts and Sciences facilities include studios for painting, drawing, ceramics, metalworking, sculpture, printmaking, and industrial, graphics, multimedia, and interior design. Art and design students have access to laboratories that allow exploration with computer aided design. A greenhouse enriches classroom experiences for students in horticulture classes in the biology department. A variety of cutting-edge laboratories afford students research and learning opportunities in chemistry, biology and physics. The mathematics and English departments have computer laboratories with specialized software; as well as tutorial centers in math and writing. The music department features band and choral rooms, and several practice areas. Historic Harvey Hall houses a 600-seat auditorium, home to Stout's theatre company.

Facilities in the College of Human Development include two laboratory restaurants that are operated by students and serve the campus and public. Corner III—The Cedar Cafe serves lunch and is oriented toward cafeteria-style meals. The Rendezvous serves dinner and is oriented toward fine dining. A food testing laboratory allows commercial testing of foods and other products. A sensory laboratory simulates consumer acceptance and descriptive testing of food products. The Stout Vocational Rehabilitation Institute provides services to consumers of state rehabilitation programs. Students in the vocational rehabilitation program have an opportunity to work with people with disabilities and learn rehabilitation evaluation and techniques. An addition to the fieldhouse has expanded the physical education offerings on campus and provided more opportunities for recreation (see athletic and recreation facilities below).

The College of Technology, Engineering and Management houses one of the most comprehensive packaging laboratories in the nation. The building construction laboratory is large enough to accommodate small structures. Fryklund Hall houses laboratories equipped for work in computer integrated manufacturing, materials processing and electronics. Expansion in the graphic communications laboratories has created a center where students take a printing project from concept through printing and bindery. Textiles students have access to labs for weaving, clothing care and cleaning, and study of fiber chemistry and computer aided fashion design. The Niche is a boutique managed by students who buy, price, advertise and sell the merchandise.

The School of Education places student/intern teachers and practicum students in PK-12 schools and technical colleges as a culminating experience in their program. In addition, graduate and undergraduate students majoring in an educational programs use UW-Stout's many specialized on-campus laboratories as they move through their program. These include such laboratories as science, technology, apparel, art and design, food and nutrition, group dynamics, counseling, play therapy, curriculum, and teaching demonstration laboratories. The Child and Family Study Center provides high quality programming for children ages six weeks through six years while serving as a laboratory school and observation site for the Early Childhood Education and other related majors on campus.

Computer Access: Other universities boast about their "students to computer" ratio, but with our e-Scholar program, UW-Stout has a "computers to student" ratio. In addition to your laptop, hundreds of computers are available to students in specialty and open-access laboratories, and in the residence halls. More than 80 software packages provide opportunities for word and data processing, and specialized work in specific subject areas.

Athletics and Recreation Facilities: UW-Stout's Recreation and Athletic Complex is home to 14 Blue Devil athletic teams and to University Recreation programs. Among our modern facilities are Johnson Fieldhouse, the Health and Fitness Center, the Athletic Treatment Center, a Multipurpose Room, Burton Nelson Field, Alumni Field and the Don and Nona Williams Stadium. We offer an indoor climbing wall, and the outdoor Adventure Challenge ropes and climbing course. The Recreation Center in the lower level of the Memorial Student Center offers a relaxing area to spend some time with a variety of activities.
