Incoming Freshman

Applicants must submit a portfolio and essay to be reviewed by a committee of Art and Design department faculty, who will determine admissions into the major. The priority deadline is no later than noon on the second Monday in January for fall admission. You will receive direction on how to submit your portfolio in a separate handout accompanying your acceptance letter from UW-Stout.

Freshman Portfolio Review Process [PDF]

Students who are not accepted into the program, but meet the requirements for admission to the university; will be admitted as an Undeclared student. Undeclared students may apply for a change of major in subsequent semesters. Acceptance of change of majors may be dependent upon available openings in the program.
 
You must have a 2.5 or higher GPA, and a grade of C or higher in order to receive credit for any art and design courses already taken.



Transfer Students

Fall semesters are reserved for incoming freshman only. Students applying for fall admission and students not selected for admission in the spring who meet the requirements for admission to the university will be admitted as an Undeclared student. Undeclared students may apply for a change of major in subsequent semesters. Acceptance of change of majors may be dependent upon available openings in the program.
