Polytechnic Initiative
B. Describe this Action Project's goal in 100 words or fewer:
The goal of this action project is to shape and communicate UW-Stout's polytechnic identity and to develop an effective brand around this designation. The action steps associated with this project include:

- Deployment of an internal communication team to share updates with the campus community
- Establishment of a Polytechnic Steering Committee (mutliple tasks have been assigned to this committee)
- Creation of an integrated marketing committee (multiple tasks have been assigned to this team)

D. Describe briefly your institution's reasons for taking on this Action Project now -- why the project and its goals are high among your current priorities:
This Action Project, Polytechnic Inititiative, was identified at the Strategic Planning Group's Summer Retreat and discussed at a series of listening sessions in the fall of 2006. This action project is related to the University enduring goals and to the AQIP Category, Planning Continuous Improvement. This is a very comprehensive project that will serve as an organizing theme for the future of UW-Stout.

This is a campus wide initiative that involves several groups including the Chancellor's Advisory Council, the Polytechnic Steering Committee, the Integrated Marketing Committee and the Office of University Communications. As the project progresses and reaches students and other stakeholder groups, other offices will be involved including the academic colleges, enrollment services, research services and the Stout Foundation.
F. Name and describe briefly the key organizational process(es) that you expect this Action Project to change or improve:
This project is intended to have a signifant impact on ths campus and affect several key processes including marketing, advertising, student recruitment, faculty recruitment, new program development, fundraising, comparative data and benchmarking,
G. Explain the rationale for the length of time planned for this Action Project (from kickoff to target completion):
This project was discussed with the campus and finalized in the fall of 2006. It will kickoff in spring 2007 and is anticipated to be completed in no more than two years (see steps above). Due to the comprehensive nature of this project, it is anticipated that there will be ongoing actions that will extend past the formal project period.
H. Describe how you plan to monitor how successfully your efforts on this Action Project are progressing:
This project will be monitored internally by the Office of Budget, Planning and Analysis and the Chancellor's Advisory Council. Every six months, a formal project update will be requested and shared with the two groups listed above. Also, performance indicators have been identified at the university level to measure the success of this, and other, action projects.  Progress on these performance indicators is reviewed annually. A Polytechnic Steering Committee has been formed to provide leadership and coordination for this project. The chair of the Steering Committee meets with the Chancellor on a regular basis.
I. Describe the overall "outcome" measures or indicators that will tell you whether this Action Project has been a success or failure in achieving its goals:
There are several outcome measures that will be used to evaluate the success of this project including completed committee tasks, student applications and enrollments, faculty research, fundraising statistics, student engagement and satisfaction levels.

An external consultant has been hired to assist with the marketing aspects of this action project.
