College Profile

The College of Education, Hospitality, Health and Human Sciences (CEHHHS) offers undergraduate and graduate degrees that prepare professionals to become successful and effective leaders in their discipline, improve the human condition, and meet the challenges of a changing world. Classroom-laboratory instruction, student research, service learning, professional organization linkages, and supervised field experiences in the community and schools prepare graduates for a variety of educational and professional settings. The College has 16 undergraduate programs and 11 graduate programs. Undergraduate programs focus on education (including: art, career and technical, early childhood, family and consumer, math, marketing and business, science, special education and technology), cognitive science, dietetics, food systems and technology, health, wellness and fitness, human development and family studies, psychology and vocational rehabilitation.

Graduate programs focus on applied psychology, education (including: career and technical, education, reading, school counseling and school psychology), family studies and human development, food and nutritional sciences, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling and vocational rehabilitation. Our programs have achieved state, national and international prominence, as well as accreditation. For example, the School of Education has achieved full NCATE approval ; all education programs are accredited through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction; the graduate program in Vocational Rehabilitation is accredited by the Council on Rehabilitation Education; School Psychology has been approved by the National Association of School Psychologists; School Counseling has been accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs; and the graduate program in Marriage and Family Therapy is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy education.

Professional development opportunities are offered throughout the college. For example, the Stout Vocational Rehabilitation Institute offers face-to-face and online education programs for professionals and employers. The School of Education provides face-to-face and online opportunities for professional development, licensure renewal, and additional certifications for education professionals. CEHHHS offers online certificate programs in eLearning and online teaching, instructional design, workplace diversity, human resource management, and evaluation studies.

CEHHHS is home to several Centers, which provide opportunities for research and applied learning: Center for Nutrition Education, Clinical Services Center, Stout Vocational Rehabilitation Institute, and the Child and Family Study Center.

Our dedication to improving the well-being of people and meet the challenges of a changing world is reflected in faculty scholarship. To name just a few examples, faculty study mindful eating, food safety, family stress and resilience, reproduction technologies, rehabilitation technologies, workforce development, response to education interventions, memory, stereotypes, and persuasion. Faculty members regularly involve undergraduate and graduate students in independent and collaborative research.

Our commitment to serve is evident in our many collaborative initiatives with University and community partners. Professional development events hosted by our College include the Early Childhood Education; Vocational Rehabilitation; STEM Education; and Family and Consumer Science Education conferences. Middle and high school students are regularly invited to events hosted by our College such as DECA, FCCLA, Rube Goldberg, and Visual Arts Classic competitions, as well as events that help students prepare for college.
