The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (CAHSS) has 131 faculty and instructional academic staff, 9 classified staff and annual student course enrollment totals of approximately 24,000. CAHSS has an excellent student to instructor ratio of 23-to-1.
The CAHSS houses the School of Art and Design, which includes the departments of Art and Art History and Design, as well as the departments of English and Philosophy; Social Science; and Speech Communication, Foreign Languages, Theatre and Music.
The CAHSS offers several undergraduate degree programs (majors): B.S. in Applied Social Science with concentrations in Economics, History and Politics, or Sociology/Anthropology; B.F.A. in Art with concentrations in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design, Multimedia Design, or Studio Art; B.S. in Game Design and Development with a concentration in Art; and a B.S. in Professional Communication, Applied Journalism, or Digital Humanities. The College also offers an M.S. in Technical and Professional Communication and an M.F.A. in Design.
Fifteen minors are available to students from the CAHSS: Applied Foreign Language, Art, Economics, Economics Teaching, English Literature, English Writing, Geographic Information Systems, History, History Teaching, Journalism, Philosophy, Sociology, Spanish, Speech Communication and Technical Writing.
CAHSS also is home to several innovative and active centers and co-curricular activities: the Design Research Center, the Applied Social Science Research Center, the Website Usability Testing Center, the Writing Center, Prometheus, University Bands, University Choirs, University Forensics, University Theatre, and the John Furlong Gallery.
