[hidetoc]Introduction
University of Wisconsin-Stout Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service that supports the instruction, research and scholarship of UW-Stout students, staff, faculty and emeriti. It provides access to library materials not available locally. This includes articles, books, theses, dissertations, and multimedia. Items for personal interests should be obtained through the Menomonie Public Library or other public libraries in the area where the requestor resides. The UW-Stout University Library Interlibrary Loan Service reserves the right to refuse requests that are not within the scope of UW-Stout's research, teaching and scholarship missions.
Procedures for Requesting Materials
- Log into ILLiad and choose one: Request a photocopy, book, or thesis.
- Complete the sections pertinent to the type of material being requested.
- Provide a complete citation. It is essential to provide the full journal title rather than an abbreviation.
- Include the source of the citations when ever possible.
- Please include the ISSN number for journals or magazines or the ISBN for books . This number is not mandatory, but is useful for speedy processing.
- For further questions about ILLiad see ILLiad FAQ's
Interlibrary Loan no longer accepts ILL requests on paper forms: please place all requests online through ILLiad. Only if Illiad is NOT available, use these online forms for articles and books.
Eligible Users
Faculty, staff, students and emeriti with both active UW-Stout ID's and active Stout e-mail accounts may use Stout's interlibrary loan service.
Limitations
Materials which are generally not available through ILL:
- Items owned by the Stout University Library but temporarily in use (However, these items may be available through Universal Borrowing).
- Textbooks used at Stout.
- Whole volumes or issues of periodicals.
- Newspapers and manuscripts, unless available on microform.
- Some AV material and computer software programs.
- Genealogical, heraldic and local history material.
- Any material that a lending library chooses not to circulate.
Cost
- Each request generates a substantial cost that is absorbed by the University Library. The University Library and many Wisconsin libraries belong to WILS (Wisconsin Interlibrary Services). Material borrowed from WILS members incurs no cost to you. Material that is not available through WILS can usually be borrowed from out-of-state libraries, if the requestor desires, but any charges by a lending library must be paid by the requestor. Typical charges are from $6 to $10; firm estimates cannot be obtained in advance.
- Care of the ILL material is the total responsibility of the borrowing patron and fees will be charged for lost or damaged items.
Service Charges
- Overdue returnables (books, videos, etc): A charge of $5.00 per day per overdue item for every day that the UW-Stout Library is open.
- Failure to retrieve a borrowed item that must be returned to another library (usually books, AV's, CD's, etc) within 10 days of notification that the item is available on the Library's Hold Shelf at the Circulation Desk will be assessed a charge of $15.00.
