- Library will assume that the instructor is in compliance at the point of Library staff accepting the copied item(s).
- Section 107 permits the making of multiple copies for classroom use. Four factors govern the use of copyrighted materials in this instance, and UW Stout faculty need to consider them in determining fair use:
- Purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for non-profit educational purposes;
- the nature of the copyrighted work;
- the amount and substantiality of the portion of the work used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
- the effect on the potential market for or value of the copyrighted material.
- For additional information about Fair Use, see the library's copyright policy.
How to place personal items on Open Reserve
- Instructors are asked to write their name, the course number, and course name on each item.
- The library will provide security for personal copies of books and videos.
- All personal copies will be returned via campus mail at the end of each semester. Open Reserve items, including faculty personal copies, may not be checked out.
