1.0 Staff Changes

Phil Schwarz, Library Director introduced himself and announced these staff changes:

2.0 Budget Issues

The library has returned $29,000 in budget lapse monies; we lost two positions.   We returned $75,000 in "128" monies, of which $53,000 was from Instructional Resources Service. The periodicals vendor went bankrupt and we lost $100,000.   We were able to continue periodical subscriptions with additional funds from the Provost.

3.0 Library Technology Fee

Tech fee funds will allow us to purchase Mac desktops, a new proxy server, and digital cameras (in conjunction with a grant to the Stout Camera Club).

4.0 Library Annual Report

The 2002-03 Library Annual Report is available on the web at the library Services and Departments. A library committee has been formed to review the layout and information to be included in future annual reports.

5.0 Library 2004 Mission and Goals

The 2004 mission and goals are available on the web. Are no longer available on the web.   Please contact Library Administration.

6.0 Electronic Reserves

It is now possible to provide course materials to students electronically.   These items could be print journal articles, instructor produced materials, full-text articles from indexes, etc.   You will need to provide a scannable document or, in the case of articles from indexes, the database and citation.   Our staff will scan the document and provide a pdf file and assist in uploading it to your folder.   Please contact Kathy Winters, x1898, for assistance.   Use of electronic reserves must be in compliance with copyright laws.

7.0 Lab Mod Request

The library's lab mod request for 25 computers for the instruction lab was not funded. These computers are no longer under maintenance.

8.0 LibQUAL Survey

The LibQUAL Survey is now on the web. Phil Schwarz urged committee members to complete this survey.

9.0 Member for Barnard Award Committee

Brian Fitch volunteered to serve on this committee.

10.0 Office Visits

Jana Reeg-Steidinger announced that reference librarians will visit instructors' offices to provide information on library resources available to them.   It can be tailored to the instructor's or student's research needs.   She distributed a handout on "RefWorks Quick Start" which is a web-based bibliographic manager that organizes citations and creates bibliographies, and is used extensively in the thesis writing workshops.   The next thesis workshop is April 14, 6 p.m.   Contact Jana at x1553 for further information.

11.0 ExLibris-SFX and Metalib

Lelah Lugo distributed a handout on "SFX and Metalib:   An Introduction".   SFX is a new Internet linking product and will change the way searching is done in the library.   Metalib will enable users to access their library's e-collections, obtain relevant services, and work in a personalized environment.   Phil Schwarz stated that a statistical package will enable us to see what is being used.   SFX will be available in the spring and Metalib by the fall semester.   Contact the reference desk, x1353, for assistance.

12.0 ILL/ILLIAD

Electronic delivery of items requested through Interlibrary Loan is available. When your article arrives, an email is sent to you stating it is available as a PDF document and provides a link to the document.   You do not need to come to the library to pick it up.   There is also a Interlibrary Loan form for Distance Education students to request materials.

13.0 "Into the Book" program

As a part of the campus "Into the Book" program last fall, three librarians set up a web page of similar readings and an exhibit which included adventure books.   They will be participating again next fall.
